From Dream to Reality . . .
Welcome to Purdue’s new Food Science Building
The building is 122,000 square feet with 36 research and teaching labs. There are two computing labs housed in the building as well.
This facility is state-of-the-art, housing faculty in Food Science and Agricultural and Biological Engineering.
The building was designed for maximum efficiency. The office space for graduate students, faculty
and staff is located on the outside of the building, providing natural light, while laboratories are
centrally located in the center of the building. Graduate student offices will hold 4 students,
allowing each student their own desk space with a window!
Another innovation in this new building is the organization of faculty offices and lab spaces.
Placement of faculty and their labs was done based on their expertise. The basement contains the
cereal chemistry and processing research. The first floor primarily houses food processing and
manufacturing specialties. The second floor focuses on structure functionality of carbohydrates,
and the third floor is primarily food safety and quality. These groupings have brought about further
collaborations and effectively increased communication between the faculty, staff and students.
