Take a long
journey into history with this 17 minute program as it highlights
the long term goals of the experiment and provides
an insightful commentary on the findings that have impacted
agriculture production for a century and a half. Rothamsted,
once known as Rothamsted Experimental Station, is located outside
of Harpenden in the United Kingdom and is among the oldest research
stations in the world.
The Broadbalk program,
narrated by Lawes Senior Trust Fellow Mr. Johnny Johnson, is an
excellent
introduction for this historic experiment. Some of
the program highlights include:
- goals and objectives
of the experiment
- changes that have been
implemented
- major research findings
Johnson describes how
the experiment originated, and its importance in today’s
society. Effects of nutrient applications and cropping patterns
on crop growth and management, as well as environmental
effects are illustrated. Johnson describes how this experiment
has implications to today’s agriculture, and how
this information applies to nutrient usage and environmental
quality today.
This program was
designed for professors and professionals in agriculture, agronomy,
natural resources or environmental sciences. It
has also been adapted worldwide for outreach and continuing education
programs in soils, fertility, cropping systems, and natural resources.
