the first
Spirit of the Land-Grant Mission Award on October 1. The award was
presented by Purdue Agriculture in recognition of his contributions in
developing an integrated research and extension program.
- September 2008: Dr. Mike Schutz was presented
with several awards ath the Purdue annual extension banquet held September 16.
Dr. Schutz was presented with the prestigious
Eric G. Sharvelle Distinguished Extension Service Award for his significant
contributions to extension. He, along with five of his colleagues, received
the
State Diversity Team Award from Epsilon Sigma Phi (the Extension Professional's
Organization) in regognition of innovative programming to reach diverse audiences.
Epsilon Sigma Phi also presented him with a Certificate in recognition of
outstanding service in Global Relations.

- May 2008: Dr. Wayne Singleton was named a
Master of the
Pork Industry by National Hog Farmer. Dr. Singleton was recognized
for his contributions to the broad and successful adoption of artificial
insemination in the swine industry.

- April 2008: Dr. Mark Russell was recognized as
one of seven new 2007-2008 University Diversity Fellows at the Third Annual
Diversity Fellows Colloquium held April 10. This is a highlight of the University's
Diversity in the Classroom Project and the Diversity Fellows Program. Dr. Russell
was recognized for including diversity components into ANSC 381 Career Leadership.
- April 2008: During the 2008 Tri-State
Dairy Nutrition Conference, the Proceedings were dedicated to Dr. Timothy
Johnson, former dairy extension specialist. Dr. Johnson was recognized for his many
contributions to the founding of the Tri-State Conference and his commitment to this
very successful event.

- May 2007: Dr. Dave Gerrard is the recipient of the 2007 American Meat
Science Association (AMSA) Research Award. The award will be presented at the
2007 Reciprocal Meat Conference (AMSA's national meeting) at South Dakota State
University in June.
- April 2007: Dr. Layi Adeola will receive the
American Feed Industry Association Award in Nonruninant Nutrition at the
national meeting of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) in July 2007.
This award recognizes excellence in nutrition research of nonruminant animals.
- April 2007: Rachel Cumberbatch, an animal science and pre-veterinary
medicine major from Lebanon, IN, has received the $500 Flora Roberts Award for
the outstanding graduating woman.

- April 2007: Dr. Layi Adeola will be the first
recipient of the Maple Leaf Farms Research Award. The award is to be awarded at
the Poultry Sciences Association (PSA) annual banquet in July 2007. This is a
new award at PSA and is given to stimulate and reward research with ducks and
improve the knowledge base of science as applied to commercial duck production.
- April 2007: Dr. Mickey Latour has been selected
to receive the 2007 NACTA Teacher Fellow Award. The award will be presented at
the annual conference of the North American Colleges and Teachers of
Agriculture, which will be held at the University of Illinois in June 2007. This
award recognizes scholarly efforts and excellence in teaching.

- Dr. Layi Adeola will receive the American Feed
Industry Award at the upcoming 2005 Poultry Science Association annual meeting
in Auburn, AL. The American Feed Industry Award is an annual award given for
distinctive work demonstrating sound research in poultry nutrition.
- The Department of Animal Sciences was presented with the Arthur G.
Hansen Recognition Award during the University Annual Retirement Banquet
on June 1, 2005. This award is presented by the Office of the President
and the Purdue University Retirees Association to the University unit
that excels in fostering a strong relationship with its retirees. A cash
award of $2500 from TIAA-CREF provides funds to enhance involvement of
retirees in the department and accompanies a recognition trophy (that
will be displayed in the Lilly Hall third floor showcase). A master
plaque identifying the recipients hangs in the Purdue Memorial Union.
The award is given in honor of Arthur G. Hansen, who served as Purdue
president from 1971 to 1982.

Dr. Paul Collodi has been named a University Faculty
Scholar. Dr. Collodi was recognized by Provost Mason on March 11, 2004 at a
ceremony for faculty scholars. The University Faculty Scholar program recognizes
outstanding faculty who are on an accelerated path for academic distinction.

Fat cells fight disease, Purdue University researchers find - Dr. Mike
Spurlock and Kolapo Ajuwon
- Dr. Wayne Singleton was presented with the Hovde
Award on December 13 at the 2003 Indiana Farm Bureau State Convention. The
Hovde Award is presented annually to a Purdue faculty/staff member that has made
significant contributions to the citizens of the state of Indiana. Dr. Singleton
has contributed greatly to Indiana's livestock industry.
- Dr. Mark Russell was inducted into the Book of
Great Teachers in a ceremony on campus August 28. He was one of 42 teachers
campus-wide (8 in the School of Ag) recognized for outstanding contributions to
the teaching mission.
- Dr. Donald C. Lay, Jr. has received an Area Early
Career Research Scientist of the Year Award (Midwest Area) from USDA-ARS. Dr.
Lay is Research Leader of the Livestock Behavior Research Unit.
