Description

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Wet weather and moldy corn make grain harvest, storage and marketing a bit tricky this year, but Purdue University Extension specialists will hold a session Nov. 9 to help Hoosier farmers better manage the 2009 corn crop.

"We haven't seen a harvest like this for more than two decades," said Bruce Erickson, Purdue Cropping Systems Management director and session host. "Farmers don't even have to stop their combines to join us. They can just call in from their cell phones to get a quick update."

The session will be held from noon to 1 p.m., and anyone involved with grain harvest, storage, marketing or feeding is encouraged to call in or log on to get the latest information.
Topics and speakers include:
* Grain drydown and agronomic considerations by Bob Nielsen, Purdue Extension corn management specialist.
* Grain drying, handling and storage by Matt Roberts and Richard Stroshine, both of the Department of Agriculture and Biological Engineering.
* Ear rots and mycotoxins by Charles Woloshuk and Kiersten Wise, Purdue Extension plant pathologists.
* Crop insurance considerations by George Patrick, Purdue Extension agricultural economist.
* Livestock feeding implications by Brian Richert, Purdue Extension swine nutrition and management specialist.
* Marketing considerations by Corinne Alexander and Chris Hurt, Purdue Extension marketing specialists.

Time will be allotted for questions.
There is no cost to participate. Interested individuals should dial 800-244-5901 just prior to the event and enter the pass code 938725 when prompted.
