Fred Fahrenholz, BS '42, is living in Franklin, Ohio.

Ellis Murphy, BS '47, is retired and living in Chicago.

Edward TerBush, MS '53, of Green Valley, Ariz., received his M.D. degree in the fall of 1954, then interned at Springfield Mercy Hospital in Ohio. He was in practice for two years in the little town of Twelve Mile, Ind., then bought a practice in Logansport, Ind., and was there for 10 years. He then moved to Arizona, where he practiced until his retirement.

Chuck Andres, BS '55, of St. Leon, Ind., was among five people inducted May 13 into the Athletic Hall of Fame of Stephen T. Badin High School in Hamilton, Ohio. Andres played for the Big Ten co-champs and No. 8 nationally ranked Boilermaker squad in 1952. He is president of the St. Leon Town Council and a member of the Indiana Rural Development Council and serves on its governing board as well as several of its committees. He also serves on the Rural Wastewater Management Task Force of the Indiana Land Resource Council.

Jessup Shively, BS '57, MS '59, PhD '62, of Seneca, S.C., retired in 2000 after 43 years of teaching. He spent 30 years at Clemson University, eight years at the University of Nebraska, and five at Purdue as a graduate teaching assistant and instructor of biochemistry.

Eugene Eisen, MS '62, PhD '65, of Raleigh, N.C., was awarded the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence by North Carolina State University. The Holladay Medal, the university's highest honor for faculty, recognizes a faculty member's contributions in teaching, research and service. Eisen joined the university's Department of Animal Science in 1964. He was named William Neal Reynolds Professor in 1988. He has received the N.C. State Alumni Research Award, the Biological Fellowship at Edinburgh (Scotland) University, and the Rockefeller Prentice Memorial Award from the American Society of Animal Science and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Jack Ingels, BS '64, of Cobleskill, N.Y., is a Distinguished Teaching Professor at the State University of New York and is the author of two textbooks: Landscaping: Principles & Practices (6th Ed.) and Ornamental Horticulture: Materials, Methods & Management (3rd Edition), Delmar Publishing, Clifton Park, N.Y.

Aldo Alves, MS '65, of Brazil, received the Weed Science Society of America Honorary Member (2004) Award at the society's annual meeting in Jacksonville, Fla., in February.

Larry Wolter, BS '68, of Bedford, N.H., retired from Anheuser Busch at Merrimack, N.H., after 32 years as engineering area manager and senior process support/project engineer for utilities.

James L. Sell, BS '69, of Avon, Ind., recently retired from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Indianapolis after 34 years of government service. His last position with the agency was state conservation engineer in charge of all phases of engineering for the agency within Indiana. His wife, Joanna, BS '69 in vocational home economics education, is director of the Bartlett Chapel Preschool in Avon.

Darrel Kesler, BS '71, MS '74, of Champaign, Ill., received the 2002 North Central Award for Excellence in College and University Teaching from the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges and the 2003 Campus Award for Innovation in Undergraduate Instruction from the University of Illinois. Kesler is a professor of animal sciences and veterinary clinical medicine at the University of Illinois. He gives numerous invited talks on his research around the world, including a keynote speech at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association this spring.

Kenneth Kirkman, BS '71, of Battle Ground, Wash., received the Administrator's Excellence Award for Achievement in Environmental Protection from The Bonneville Power Administration. Kirkman assisted the Nez Perce Tribe in the construction and operation of the Nez Perce fish hatchery in Idaho.

James Wrather, MS '72, is one of 13 recipients of the 2002 Meritorious Service Award presented annually by the United Soybean Board. Wrather is professor of plant microbiology and pathology at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Robert Hartzler, BS '78, received the 2003 Outstanding Extension Award from the Weed Science Society of America. Since 1987, Hartzler has been assistant professor/Extension weed management specialist at Iowa State University.

Steven Hopkins, BS '78, of Greenville, Ohio, is a research assistant at Monsanto.

Gary Stuckey, BS '79, of Odon, Ind., was awarded the Purdue Alumni Association Citizenship Award in April in recognition of his unselfish dedication and service to his community and fellow citizens. He has been an agricultural science and business teacher at North Daviess High School for nearly 20 years. He also has served as the FFA and Young Farmers adviser, and he was a national finalist as Outstanding Young Farmer Adviser in 2002.

Brent Hoene, AAG '91, moved to Louisville, Ky., in 1995. He and his wife, Mary Ellen, have two sons, Andrew, 4, and Sammy, 2. Kathy Evans, MS '92, is a senior research fellow and plant pathologist at the University of Tasmania in Australia.

Peggy Grow, BS '94, of Martinsville, Ind., earned her master's degree in physics education at Indiana University this summer. She has one daughter, Kinsey Marie Grow, born on April 5.

Brian Kitch, BS '94, and Patricia Bates Kitch, BS '97, of Bourbon, Ind., had a baby boy on Jan. 29. Brandon Jay Kitch weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 21 inches long.

Jason Tower, BS '97, married Erin Duffy, BS '99 (both in Animal Sciences) on Oct. 21, 2000. Jason is the superintendent of the Southern Indiana Purdue Ag Center in Dubois. Erin is a stay-at-home mom for their son, Jacob, who was born Feb. 19.

Rosana Vargas, BS '97, of Chula Vista, Calif., is an Agriculture K-9 officer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Eric W. Stark, BS '32, died July 3 in West Lafayette. Stark, professor emeritus of forestry and natural resources, was a Purdue faculty member from 1943 to 1976.

Clarence B. Richey, BS '39, died June 23 in Ann Arbor, Mich. A Purdue faculty member from 1970 to 1976, Richey was professor emeritus of agricultural engineering.

Chester S. Vanada, BS '42, of Newburgh, Ind., died May 25.

Edward C. Ferringer, BS '50, MS '62, died May 22 in Lafayette. He began his career with the Cooperative Extension Service at Purdue in 1950, transferring to the Agriculture Information Department in 1953. Ferringer became head of the department, and also of audio-visual production, in 1967, until he retired in 1981.

Larry A. Nelson, 65, Purdue Extension's beef specialist for 30 years, died Aug. 11 in Lafayette. He joined the Purdue faculty in 1967 as an assistant professor, and he was promoted to professor in 1984. Nelson was associate head of the Department of Animal Sciences from 1990 until 1997.
