Frank Koontz earned a degree in journalism in 1966 from Wayne State University in his hometown of Detroit. He was a newspaper reporter and editor for about 25 years, including 19 years at the Lafayette Journal and Courier in various editing positions. He joined Ag Comm in 1992 as an editor of 4-H, Botany and Ag Engineering publications, but he was lured away six months later by the University News Service. At UNS, he was assistant director, responsible for the editing and design of all the news releases from UNS and ACS, plus sundry other editing and a pretty good chunk of Web-related duties. Frank returned to ACS in May 2000 to edit educational materials from 4-H and the College of Consumer and Family Sciences. He now is working half-time until his scheduled retirement in June 2010. His current areas of responsibility are CFS and the Department of Food Science. He also is the editor of Connections, the newspaper that is produced three times a year for Purdue Agriculture alumni, students, faculty and staff.
